Police said the 14-year-old boy was walking towards a recreational centre in Mamre Road, St Marys when a red, two-door hatchback pulled up.
The teenager told police he ignored a request from the male driver who attempted to order him into the vehicle after getting out of the car.
The man is described as white European in appearance, 180cm tall, between 20 and 30 years old with dark hair and a fair complexion.
He was wearing a black shirt, jeans and dark sunglasses.
