PORT PHILLIP Council has pulled the pin on the famous Father Bob Toy Run, deeming it unsafe after 39 years.
Independent Riders Group spokesman Damian Codognotto said he was staggered to learn Port Phillip Council had denied the group’s application to hold the St Kilda charity motorbike ride — which collects toys for disadvantaged children at Christmas — in St Kilda.
While officially run under the Father Bob banner for just the past three years, motorcyclists have been riding the charity event for 39 years.
In a letter to Mr Codognotto dated March 7, a Port Phillip council officer informed him the application for the 2016 ride had been declined.
“The event has been declined due to risk/ safety concerns and breaches of the agreed permit conditions arising from the 2015 event,” the council officer wrote.
“The event has also failed to gain approval from Victoria Police.”
