It's an unbearable and unimaginable figure, but statistics show that five Australian men commit suicide every day.
And mental health experts say it is on the rise.
This week the first National Forum on Men and Suicide is being held in Sydney.
Organisers say the number of men killing themselves each year is now higher than the national road toll, but it doesn't get anywhere near the same attention.
Dr Michael Dudley is the chairperson of Suicide Prevention Australia.
He is also a child and adolescent psychiatrist at Prince of Wales Hospital, and he's with Breakfast in the Sydney studio.
