Parent protest to march 210 miles

A group of parents and grandparents are marching from Liverpool to London to campaign for a change in family law.

About 12 people are expected to march the 210 miles (338 km) to Downing Street to hand a petition supporting fathers' parental rights to Tony Blair.

Supporters will walk about 25 miles (40km) each day before arriving in London on 12 August.

The March 4 Justice is supported by equal parenting groups Fathers 4 Justice and Families Need Fathers.

There are currently no guidelines on how much time a non-resident parent should have with their children.

Court start

Fathers 4 Justice was set up by fathers who have either no access, or very limited access to their children, and feel they have been treated unfairly by courts.

Their petition is calling for the government to introduce a new piece of legislation entitling every parent to a "legal presumption of contact."

The parents will leave Liverpool County Court at 0900 BST on Wednesday.

They are due to stop at Bostock Green, near Northwich; Trent Vale, Stoke-on-Trent; Great Wyrley, Cannock; Eastern Green, Coventry; Daventry; Turvey; Farley Hill, Luton; Hendon, and finally Downing Street via Buckingham Palace and the Houses of Parliament.

Meanwhile, a Fathers 4 Justice protester has spent a second night up a 130ft crane in Liverpool city centre.

The man, from Ormskirk, is dressed as Batman and is protesting on the site of a new family court in the city.
