A SENIOR South Australian public servant showered gifts and affection on some children in state care to ultimately satisfy his sexual deviance, the Adelaide Magistrates Court was told today.
The 46-year-old, who cannot be named, is charged with 12 child sex offences after being arrested by members of a police pedophile task force during a dawn raid on Saturday at his suburban Adelaide house.
The man, a senior manager of a state government department, would "vehemently" deny the charges of unlawful sexual intercourse and indecent assault, his lawyer Stephen Ey told the court today.
The offences were alleged to have occurred between 1992 and last year and were allegedly committed on three boys aged between 12 and 15 at the time, police prosecutor Senior Sergeant Fred Wojtasik told the court.
Sen Sgt Wojtasik said the accused man was a foster carer for 14 years until deregistered from that position in May this year.
The man showered his three alleged victims with gifts, holidays and affection, he told the court.
"Using these means, he engendered loyalty and trust to satisfy what will be alleged as his own sexual deviance," Sen Sgt Wojtasik said.
"There was a ready supply of unsuspecting young victims over a lengthy period of time.
"They were vulnerable and easy prey."
Mr Ey told the court his client should be granted bail.
"The charges are vehemently denied, these are allegations that are easily made," Mr Ey said.
Magistrate Grantley Harris refused bail for the man and suppressed much of the argument during the bail application.
The man was remanded in custody and scheduled to answer the charges on October 15 this year.
