A 21-year-old Brisbane woman has become the second person charged with the torture and grievous bodily harm of her four-month-old daughter.

The woman from Nundah, in the city's north, is jointly charged with her 20-year-old de facto husband, who was remanded in custody in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on the same charges on May 18.

Police were alerted to the case after the baby was treated at Royal Brisbane Hospital for severe injuries, including two broken arms, two broken legs, six broken ribs and a fractured collarbone. The girl was taken to the hospital by ambulance after she began coughing up blood.

Police allege the charged man initially blamed the baby's two-year-old sibling for the injuries, but that he later said he had fallen while carrying the infant.

The woman is expected to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

Her de facto husband will reappear on July 12.
