About 50,000 Australian couples divorce each year and when it happens it is not only hearts that are broken but bank balances are left sad as well.
It has been revealed that Shane Warne's wife Simone will receive $10 million from her divorce settlement.
The controversial bowler and father of three reportedly makes $1.4 million a year from cricket and celebrity endorsements.
Aside from the money, the separation has triggered a burgeoning TV career for former model Simone after she signed up as one of the celebrities for the new series of Dancing With The Stars.
Other celebrity splits can be just as costly.
James Packer's ex-wife Jodie walked away with a cool $12 million after being married to Mr Packer for just 20 months.
James's former fiance Kate Fischer, who never married the media heavyweight, is believed to have received a $10 million payout.
President of the New South Wales Law Society, June McPhee, said divorce is costing Australians $7 billion a year in settlements but the wealthy are hit the hardest.
"It's all a matter of degree of course they've got greater income greater assets and the split up of the family assets and property is greater by degree," she said.
"If you had a very short relationship with a film star, your ability to cash in or make a motzer of the relationship on a speculative basis would not get you very far."
In the eyes off the law it depends on the number of children they have had, the spouse's contribution during the marriage and in many cases the wife does end up with the family home because of the law's consideration for the children.

Tom Cruise will not marry Katie Holmes until she signs a pre-nuptial agreement.
Tom's ex Nicole Kidman walked away with $125 million.
After divorcing Prince Charles, Princess Diana settled for between $25 million and $33 million.
In the divorce stakes it does not get bigger than Rupert Murdoch. When he divorced wife Anna Torv after 21 years of marriage, she received a reported $2.3 billion.
