THE mother of a young boy missing for nearly two weeks has made a desperate plea for public help to find her son.

Andrew Nicholas Knight, 11, was last seen on January 11 playing with friends at the Ashburton swimming pool in Melbourne's southeast about 3.30pm.

His mother, Michelle Knight, raised the alarm after Andrew did not return home that night.

Police investigating the disappearance believe Andrew may be with his father, Michael Andrew Knight, 37, from Ivanhoe. In a rare move, the Family Court has permitted the publication of the boy's details to ensure his safe return.

Andrew is the subject of a Family Court recovery order, issued on January 12, that requires him to be returned to his mother.

Andrew is described as 135cm tall, thin build with light brown hair, brown eyes and prominent front teeth.

When last seen he was wearing light grey and blue hooded windcheater with a picture of an alien on the front.

He was wearing beach sandals and had a grey school bag with Solway Primary School written on it.

His father, who is unemployed, is described as 170cm tall with brown eyes and brown hair.

They may be travelling in a two-door silver Nissan Patrol 4WD with registration CPK 396.

The Family Law Act limits the publication of any further details about the case.

Anyone with information about Andrew's location is urged to call the Australian Federal Police on 9607 7777 or Michelle Knight's lawyer on 9328 2144.
