Family Court goes public in hunt for missing children
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is seeking help from the public to locate Annette Powell, aged 12, Karen Powell, aged 7, and Dominic Powell, aged 4, who were due to return home to their mother on 26 January 2002 after visiting their father in the Melbourne suburb of Strathmore.
The children are the subjects of a Family Court of Australia recovery order made on 30 January 2002, which requires that they be returned to their mother in Melbourne.
Federal agents believe the children may be with their father, Leo Powell, or that he may be able to assist police in recovering the children, and are seeking any information from the public about the location of Mr Powell or the three children.
Annette Powell is Caucasian and has long, reddish-brown, wavy hair that is usually tied back in a ponytail. She has brown eyes, is approximately 163cm tall (5'04") and is of slim build.
Karen Powell is Caucasian and has straight brown hair, which she often wears tied back from her face. She has blue eyes, is approximately 120cm tall (4'00") and is of solid build.
Dominic Powell is Caucasian and has short blond hair. He has blue eyes, is approximately 100cm tall (3'03") and is of slim build.
Mr Powell is Caucasian, 50 years old and is about 175cm tall (5'09"). He has brown-coloured hair and eyebrows and when last seen he also had a brown moustache. He wears glasses, has brown eyes and is described as being of medium build.
Mr Powell may be driving a blue 1981 Toyota Celica with Victorian registration PWD 375.
Any information on the whereabouts of the children or their father can be provided to the AFP in Melbourne on 03 9607 7777 (24 hours) or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
